República Names Ofelia San Pedro Chief Financial Officer

MIAMI, August 8, 2012– República, a cross-cultural advertising, digital and communications agency, today announced the appointment of Ofelia San Pedro as chief financial officer (CFO). In this newly created role, San Pedro is responsible for finance, administration, human resources, support services and information technology. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Industrial Engineer, San Pedro is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years experience in both corporate America and the public sector.

Prior to joining República, San Pedro was chief operating officer of Kaplan Virtual Education, a subsidiary of Kaplan Inc., a Washington Post Company. Previously, San Pedro served as deputy superintendent of business operations for Miami-Dade Public Schools–the fourth largest school district in the United States–where she was responsible for financial operations, procurement, labor relations, information technology, facilities, transportation, and food & nutrition. In 2005, she completed the prestigious Broad Superintendents Academy.

“There’s an energy and passion that’s second to none at República, and it’s very impressive to witness what Jorge and Luis have built despite the economy and through their untiring entrepreneurial spirit,” said San Pedro. “I am extremely excited to have joined their stellar team as we continue building República into the future.”

Prior to joining Miami-Dade Public Schools, San Pedro was vice president of global procurement at Ryder System Inc. and president of the Ryder Energy division. Earlier in her career, San Pedro was an adjunct professor of industrial engineering at the University of Miami, her alma mater.

“As República continues to grow and expand into new areas, we are extremely fortunate to add Ofelia, one of the greatest financial and operational minds in business, to our República family,” said Jorge A. Plasencia, República’s chairman and CEO.

“Ofelia is a true business veteran and her experience combined with her fresh ideas are helping catapult our company,” said Luis Casamayor, president and chief creative officer of República.

San Pedro is also actively involved in the community. Currently, she sits on the advisory council for New Futuro and serves as secretary of the board of directors of Amigos For Kids.

San Pedro received both a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and an MBA from the University of Miami.
