Global custom media, content, and publishing company Havas House is searching for a seasoned Editor to oversee an entrepreneurship publication. Produced biannually, the magazine caters to South Florida’s burgeoning business community. Editor must have experience with the city’s top industries, have connections with key business owners and local leaders, and be knowledgeable of current trends, new business openings, and more. Must be based in Miami, Florida, and have unique insights into the South Florida market.

 

Summary of responsibilities:

The Editor is responsible for developing compelling editorial outlines and topics, ensuring editorial excellence and tone of voice are in line with target demographic, managing freelance contributors, organizing photo shoots, adhering to production budgets and deadlines, and promoting social⁄online distribution of content. The Editor will:

  • Establish professional relationships with Editorial Director and in-house team, and maintain communication with them as needed
  • Brainstorm editorial content that is both interesting and in line with current industry trends, present ideas to Editorial Director and incorporate any special requests they may have
  • Leverage professional relationships and tap local business leaders for involvement
  • Compose original content while coordinating assignments with other freelance writers
  • Review and adhere to budgets, deciding how best to allocate expenses 
  • Contact and manage freelance writers and photographers, ensuring work is submitted in a timely matter and freelancers are compensated for their work
  • Organize custom photo shoots as needed
  • Ensure articles are properly fact checked, proofread and edited 
  • Work with Graphic Designers to provide all necessary content and photography for layouts
  • Ensure final products are of the highest quality, including text and design consistency, formatting, accuracy, etc.
  • Keep editorial content fresh and new
  • Develop social media calendar and compose posts in order to promote content throughout publication’s 6-month shelf life
  • Stay up-to-date on trends and technology and drive cutting-edge ideas for publications
  • Write marketing/PR content related to publications as needed

 

Qualifications⁄Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in English, communication or journalism
  • 5–8 years editorial experience required with at least 3 years’ experience in South Florida’s business industry 
  • Experience working with multiple social media accounts and promoting company goals through digital strategies
  • Computer proficiency on MAC platform required, including experience with Adobe InDesign/InCopy 
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with social media engagement and interaction
  • Ability to understand and implement strategy, branding and nuances in original editorial
  • Highly organized, team player who enjoys collaboration
  • Problem solver
  • Willingness⁄ability to work long hours during deadline periods
